Suppressing Negative News Articles

CLIENT

  • Client A is an Engineering Executive with over 12 years of experience.
  • Client A was searching for a new job opportunity and was not able to gain traction as these companies were performing “digital screenings,” and there was a negative news article prominently displayed on page 1 of Google search results.
  • Reputation Resolutions was engaged to help Client A take control of the narrative being told about him online.

PROBLEM

  • Client A was being defined by a negative news article on a local news site, which was affecting his career and reputation.
  •  Client A did not have a professional online presence to communicate his leadership attributes and broad work experience. We needed to build a professional brand that was credible in the eyes of potential employers.
  • At the time of the initial engagement, Client A was only controlling 2 links on page one of Google search results (his Linkedin and Facebook profile). Our research showed that the first page of Google search results contained mostly data aggregator sites that were irrelevant for Client A’s personal and professional brand. We needed to build Client A a website and overhaul his digital presence.

SOLUTION

  • We built a custom personal website, and we created branded, optimized web properties. Our team updated these consistently with unique content.
  • We helped Client A craft topically relevant content to position him as a thought leader in his field. Utilizing the relationships we have developed, we published 12 pieces of high-quality content on credible and high-ranking publications.
  • We launched “click-through” campaign that resulted in thousands of clicks from our own network of U.S based searchers to build positive engagement metrics to the positive/neutral links we were looking to boost. In 2019, the #1 ranking factor is engagement metrics – or the amount of “clicks” and interaction a particular link gets over time. Generally speaking, the more clicks a link gets from searchers over time, the higher the link will rank in search results.
  • Leveraging our team of digital marketing and SEO experts, we built strategic backlinks from high-ranking domains to increase and solidify the positioning of the positive/neutral web properties in search results.

RESULTS

We were able to take control of the first page of Google search results and push the damaging news article from position #3 when we started, to position #29.

We created a high quality personal/professional website for Client A that is ranking in position #1 for his name.

Two weeks after our engagement ended, Client A received a 6 figure job offer from a Fortune 500 company. Prior to our engagement, he did not receive any interest from employers – which he attributed to the negative news article.

In summary

Client A now has a great online presence that positions him as a leading authority in his field & safeguards his reputation from future damage.
